Doris Murphy Rivas

Doris Murphy Rivas, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Born on June 2, 1943, in León, Nicaragua, Doris made her home in Baton Rouge, where she created a life filled with love, warmth, and resilience.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John Cornelius "Jack" Murphy and Maria Deshon Murphy, her twin sister, Lucia Castillo, and her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Luis Enrique Rivas. She is survived by her three children: Luis Enrique Rivas, Jr. ("Kike") of Baton Rouge, LA; Jack Rivas of Brooklyn, NY; and Kelly Rivas Blum of Mandeville, LA, along with Kelly’s husband, Bryan Blum. Doris was a proud and adoring grandmother to her two grandchildren, Leopold "Leo" Blum and Amelie Blum, both of Mandeville, LA. She is also survived by her four siblings: Patricia Murphy, Helen Murphy, John Murphy, and Mary Jane Teran.
Doris was the epitome of grace and strength, known for her elegance, beauty, and charm, which could light up any room. A devoted wife and mother, she faced life’s challenges with resilience and determination, always rolling up her sleeves to support her family. She was an exceptional chef and host, sharing her love through her culinary creations and mentoring many in the food industry. Doris always brought her special flair to every occasion.
Beyond her love for family, she was a passionate advocate for animals, finding joy and purpose in caring for all creatures, great and small.
Her boundless generosity, radiant spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness, courage, and strength will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mandeville, LA, at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
